I’m not the only one who got sick at Affiliate Summit. Jim Kukral actually had to ask Twitter who *isn’t* sick after the show. Consensus says everyone is, especially those whose bodies were made by Microsoft (poor Rob Kerry). I see much sleeping and not moving in store for many of us this weekend. Mmm, naps.
So, did you hear about the US Airways plane that crashed in the Hudson? You did? Really? Because it didn’t get any attention on Twitter. Weird. You would think people would practically be pushing one another over for their 15 minutes of fame and citizen journalism glory. Nice to see everyone had so much self control. /sarcasm
At least US Airways handed it well by creating themselves a @usairways Twitter account. And, um, saving all those people, of course.
In other news!
- Dominic Litten shared Twitter’s new Suggestion Tool which “suggests” people for you to follow on Twitter using some super secret algorithm. Unfortunately, all the people they’ve suggested for me are lame. I don’t want to follow Britney Spears. I’m not 14. I prefer normal people.
- 1Marc showed us how to detect the social sites your users have visited and all of a sudden I felt the need to take a shower.
- Lee Odden noted the Twitter Power 150, which claims to rank ‘the top marketing and advertising tweeple’. Basically it’s just yet another Top list that I’m not a part of. It’s so hard being unpretty.
- After a ridiculous amount of rumor and speculation, Doug Haslam let us know that this time it was for real — Steve Jobs temporarily stepped down from Apple due to health concerns. Now maybe we can all get a life?
- Matt McGee released @semmy into the wild in anticipation for the 2009 SEMMY awards. I’ll be returning to my judging duties for this year SEMMY’s so I’m pretty excited to see things getting up and running.
- Michael Gray issued a PSA to SEO bloggers after we all once again read the exact same story 47 times.
- Following suit, Lyndon Antfliff offered up some words of wisdom to bloggers. Basically, Lyndon thinks our headlines suck and, um, I’d have to agree. Especially mine. Anyone want to buy me a subscription to Cosmo?

- Todd Friesen showed up to work to find half the building was burned down. I know, that’s not funny. But…his building burnt down!
- Brian Carter retweeted Scobleizer‘s 50 ideas on how to get more followers on Twitter, which is brought to us by FriendFeed because Scoble’s pretentious like that.
- Footinmouth introduced us to the most catastrophically seizure-inducing Web site ever created.
- Jeremiah Andrick accidentally revealed his tiny crush on Joanna Lord when he DM’d her 46 times in a short time span. [we heart you, Jeremiah.

I was just continually appalled at how offensive that site is, from different music on EVERY page, different neon colors on everything or the obsession with MS Paint
Pretty sure that horrible seizure inducing website came to us as a lead…yep :-/
Now that is how rumors get started. I can’t help that the twitter API doesn’t love me.

The wedding industry is saturated with bad taste, I mean my Wife refuded to get anything at David’s bridal last year because she always “Looked like a Giant Cake…or the Snowbeast from Star Wars”… Seems like bad taste in sequins does translate to MS painted background images

It’s small-minded to make fun of the people who twittered about the plane crash since Twitter’s been adopted for a number of things, including allowing people to chat about major events and disasters. As somebody who didn’t have access to an American TV channel at the time, it was interesting to watch people talk about it. People do that when they’re in earthquakes and similar situations, or when they see something out of the ordinary going on elsewhere. A lot of the time, it helps people get their feelings out about something, especially something like a disaster or near-disaster.
Probably also important to look inwards before talking too much about other people’s self control on Twitter
Also, you know you can unfollow tweeple whose updates are boring you, don’t you?
